    One fifth of UK electricity goes green

    One of fifth of electricity in the UK was produced by green technology, according to new figures from the Department of Energy and Climate Change. A surge in the number of wind farms fuelled the increase from 12 per cent of electricity in the first quarter of 2013 to 19.4 per cent in the first three months of 2014: a big step for the sector, as renewable energy becomes increasingly in-demand from authorities and investors.

    Canadian farmland produce must increase 70pc by 2050

    Canadian farmland production must grow between 50 and 70 per cent by 2050 to meet demand, according to the Senate Committee.

    Speaking at a press conference this week, Nova Scotia Senator Terry Mercer (deputy chair of the committee) said that the world population is forecast to expand to 9 billion people by 2050, requiring industry innovation to meet demand.

    The Commmittee recommended 19 actions to help meet rising food demand, including more publicly funded research.

    1980s farmland bust not on the way
